The Vittoriale degli italiani – complex of buildings, streets, squares, gardens, waterways and an open-air theater – built between 1921 and 1938 by Gabriele d’Annunzio, is one of the most visited museums in Italy. Built in Gardone Riviera on the shores of Lake Garda in memory of the “inimitable life” of the poet soldier and the exploits of the Italians during the First World War, it is confirmed as a more vital place than ever, visited every year not only by students and tourists, but also by scholars and intellectuals who daily attend its archives, by artists of international caliber who have trod the outdoor stage of its amphitheater or who wanted to celebrate the poet from Abruzzo by donating works of art that today adorn the avenues, squares, views of the lake, such as the Blue Horse by Mimmo Paladino, the sculpture STAR by Jacques Villeglé, the Angels by Ugo Riva. A Vittoriale that in recent years, under the presidency of Giordano Bruno Guerri (since 2008), has also been enriched with new installations, such as the Museo d’Annunzio Segreto, the Museo d’Annunzio Eroe, the Museo l’Automobile è femmina and the Museo della Santa Fabbrica Gian Carlo Maroni.
